How it works

Calculate each driveway layer separately

For each layer: cubic yards = length × width × depth in feet ÷ 27, then multiply by 1 + allowance. Tons = cubic yards × density ÷ 2,000.

A 50 × 12 ft driveway at 6 inches of compacted base and 2 inches of surface gravel needs two different quantities and often two different products. Keeping them separate makes the delivery request clearer.

How this calculator was prepared

This driveway estimate calculates sub-base and surface layers independently from finished area and installed depth, then applies the allowance and density entered for each layer. Truckloads are rounded up from total tons.
